  • Planning
  • Designing
  • Estimating and costing
  • Supervising construction
  • Construction management
  • Maintenance of structure, etc
The scope of civil engineering may be divided into two groups:
  • Scope according to the fieldwork
  • Scope according to the function
Scope according to the fieldwork :
  • Building construction
  • Construction of heavy structure
  • Transportation engineering
  • Water resources engineering
  • Geo- technical engineering
  • Environmental engineering
  • Town planning
I will only explain you the three types of fieldworks.
1) Building construction:
  • Constructing residents building like bungalow, row house, apartment, etc
  • Constructing public building like railway station, school, college, hospital, government office, etc
2) Construction of heavy structure:
  • Constructing bridge , dams
  • Constructing airport, harbour, port
  • Constructing tunnels, cassion, cofferdam
3) Transportation engineering:
  • Constructing road, highway
  • Constructing railway, runway, airport
  • Traffic engineering
  • Study of highway material
